Duffy, Class of 1983, was a three-sport athlete at Lakeside, lettering as a team captain during his senior season, leading the Vikings football team in tackles on his way to being named Second-Team All-State.While wrestling for coaches Nick Janulis and Tom Beuglas, Duffy developed into one of the best in school history, being named a team captain both his junior and senior seasons. Over those two seasons, he posted an impressive record of 66-8, winning the DeKalb County Championship in both years.At the state meets, Duffy had two strong finishes. As a junior, he placed a respectable fourth. However, as a senior, he put on a show. That season, he posted a dominant 24-1 record with his only loss coming in the state finals. In the championship match he finished second, losing a heartbreaker in overtime by a score of 1-0.Following his tremendous high school career, Duffy headed north to Boone, North Carolina, to attend Appalachian State University on a football scholarship. While at Appalachian State, he once again lettered in multiple sports. In addition to playing football he continued to shine on the wrestling mat, culminating in his sophomore year when Duffy placed third at the Southern Conference Wrestling Finals.
