DAVID WHITTEMORE (1975)

Whittemore, Class of 1975, was a two-sport athlete on the Lakeside basketball and baseball teams. He graduated with the second highest single-season point total in Lakeside basketball history, at the time, and was awarded the 1974-75 DeKalb County Offensive Player of the Year. In basketball, he was also a two time Most Valuable Player and he received the Viking Award following his senior season. In baseball, he was the Most Valuable Pitcher in 1974 and the Most Valuable Player. He also received the prestigious Viking Award for his baseball accomplishments following his senior season. After posting a 7-1 pitching record and batting over .380, he was chosen as an Atlanta Braves Dugout Club All-Star in 1975. Whittemore also was elected the President of the National Honor Society for 1974-1975. Whittemore was granted a full scholarship for the inaugural baseball season at Georgia State University where he helped launch the Panthers’ program. He graduated from Georgia State with a BBA degree majoring in Actuarial Science. Whittemore enjoyed a 30-year career as an actuarial consultant and partner with Tillinghast and its successors before retiring in 2010. For 35 years, Whittemore has been married to his wife Lisa Matlock Whittemore of Dallas, Texas. They have five grown children, Madison, Sterling, Schuyler, Nicolai and Luca along with four grandchildren, Rowan, Iris, Murphy and Lewis.
